14th August 1pm to 4pm Coldham's Common Big Wednesday with ChYpPS
Historyworks will be participating at the next BIG WEDNESDAY on August 14th 2019 from 1pm to 4pm. It will be a FREE event for all ages, with lots of family friendly crafting and sporting activities, including facepainting, and circus skills, and bubble machines, and pop up tennis and football!
The location is Coldham's Common in the area closest to the Abbey Leisure Centre off Whitehill Road. The event is part of the programme organized by Cambridge Young Peoples Participationg Service (ChYpPS). You'll find a ChYpPS information tent by the BMX track closest to the Abbey Pool to welcome everyone to Coldham's Common from 1pm.
Historyworks will be in their usual spot, with activites sharing the history of the local area and offering some crafting activities, where we will be making Pterosaur Puppets, building a Coprolite Mine as a public artwork to represent the local Victorian mining of Jurassic deposits! We will also have some crafting activities to take home, including iconic pictures from the area, such as the Coldham's Common cows and butterflies and pterosaurs, which children and adults can use to produce their own stationary cases and shoe bags which Historyworks will provide for free with help from Artists in Residence, Hilary Cox Condron and Jill Fordham. See you there!
Every year Historyworks has a theme, and this year our focus is to engage the public with the Chishom Trail, which is being built as a cycle and pedestrian pathway between Cambridge North Station and Cambridge main railway staion and will be a great new route for people in Abbey and provide a safe way to visit Coldham's Common by connecting to the pathways separated from vehicles on the Cambridge roads! Therefore to celebrate and discuss this new pathway, Historywrks is going to have activities which link to our big mural history and art project around the site of the Chisholm Trail that crosses Coldham's Common, so we are thrilled that we can be part of the BIG WEDNESDAY event that we founded at this site with ChYpPS as a new venue and event for Coldham's Common in 2015.
This year, it is great that so many charities and local organizations are joining us, such as the Cambridge Sustainable Foods with a pop up refreshment tent, Cambridge United with a pop up football activity, and the University of Cambridge Museums with a set of tents with handling objects and art activities too! All the activites are FREE and will run from 1pm to 4pm. Come on foot or by bike if you can, but if you need disability access by car, the closest parking is at the Abbey Leisure Centre where there are also toilet facilities, and the meadow at Coldham's Common near the BMX track is easy to traverse for prams and pushchairs and wheelchairs. All are Welcome!!
